Verve
Verve is JSSATE-B’s annual 3-day technocultural fest, known for its scale, energy, and massive student participation. From pre-fest sports tournaments and cause-driven marathons to mainstage artist reveals and sponsor promos, Verve demands a high-volume, high-impact promotional engine. As design team lead, I helped craft a theme-based visual system that could flex across 100+ assets — posters, reels, carousels, and more — while staying unified. Whether the mood was any particular theme, each edition brought a distinct identity that matched the fest’s vibe while keeping logistics and messaging sharp.

Problem
Verve is a high-energy 3-day technocultural fest at JSSATEB — packed with performances, inter-college competitions, sports tournaments, and cause-driven events like the JSS Run.
With over 100 promotional assets going live on Instagram, the challenge was to create a cohesive yet adaptable design system that matched the fest’s evolving energy — from rock concerts to marathon signups. The real test? Managing this at scale while standing out in a calendar already flooded with college fests.

MY ROLE
Originally part of the design team, I was promoted to Team Lead for the 2025 edition.
My responsibilities included:
Setting the overall visual direction based on the annual theme.
Coordinating with video editors, writers, and core council for content planning
Designing key posts myself while reviewing and curating contributions from the wider team
Ensuring all visuals met deadlines, brand alignment, and platform-specific requirements

strategy
We built the campaign around a theme-first design system that kept visuals uniform but flexible across formats. Each edition of Verve followed a distinct central theme that guided typography, color, textures, and overall art direction.
Central themes:
“Psychedelic” — trippy gradients, distorted type, surreal illustrations, and saturated neon palettes
“Y2K” — paper-torn textures, wide sans-serif fonts, cool-toned blues and greys with grunge overlays
“Rock” — gritty textures, bold serif fonts, high-contrast colors with neon accents
Content segmentation:
Pre-Verve:
Intra-department Sports Tournament — energetic, sporty adaptations of the central theme with dynamic typography and action-based compositions
JSS Run — formal, cause-aligned visuals that respected the tone of a marathon, using softer hues and dignified layouts
Main Fest:
Artist reveals, ticket promos, and event highlights — high-impact animated reels, countdowns, and posters aligned with the theme
Schedule carousels, behind-the-scenes, and teaser content — strategically timed to build hype and maintain interest
Sponsor content:
Custom posters, reels, and video deliverables tailored to each sponsor’s branding needs while staying visually cohesive with the Verve theme
We also adapted the tone of visuals to suit the audience — bold and exciting for student promos, formal and minimal for cause-driven content, and sleek or playful depending on the brand partnership or event type.
visual design
To handle volume and variety, we created a modular system:
Templates for different post types (event drops, lineups, timers, etc.)
Typography rules to balance theme expression and legibility
Shared asset library with textures, icons, and overlays
A design handbook (resource file) so contributors could plug-and-play while staying on-brand

impact
The campaign reached over 900K Instagram profile visits during the 2025 fest season
Ticket promotions saw record share rates and reel engagement
Sponsors reported higher visibility, with several requesting extra content after seeing initial results
The design system streamlined internal workflows, helping the team turn around high-quality posts faster, even under time crunches

summary
Designing for Verve wasn’t just about making things look good — it was about building a living system that adapted across tone, format, and function.
From heavy-themed countdowns to formal cause campaigns, we brought structure to the madness — and helped Verve look as big as it felt.
